Behind the Shot
Outside the city of Cairns in Queensland, Australia, on the east coast of Far North Queensland, is the beautiful suburb of Clifton Beach. A 20-minute drive from the center of Cairns, Clifton Beach’s palm-lined coast and wide sandy beaches feel more like a tropical paradise than a residential suburb. The area is popular with tourists because of its tropical climate, unique to this part of Australia, and access to nearby tropical rain forests and the Great Barrier Reef.
A resident of Perth on the southwest coast of Australia, Kerr loves Australia’s tropical northeast. “The area is filled with unspoilt beaches lined by swaying palm trees and reminds me of where I grew up. There is nothing quite like taking a morning coastal stroll in tropical North Queensland.”
To capture this photo, Merr hit the coast just after sunrise. “I was lucky to catch this couple walking down the beach, and I wanted to capture this morning coastal stroll, the tranquility and peace of the shot. Having the people in the shot really showcases just how grand this area is, how massive the palm trees are and how large the beaches are.”
