Behind the Shot
Long beloved by rock climbers, the Italian Dolomites have become a desirable destination for landscape photographers as well. When Chris Henry saw a photo of the Vajolet Towers, located in the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park in South Tyrol, Italy, he knew he had to visit. It’s difficult to reach these massive mountains, especially if you want to capture them at sunrise or sunset—and that’s exactly what the photographer had in mind. “It was a steep hike up to the area, but around sunset the views here were irresistible for photography,” Chris says. The light on the rocks constantly changes their appearance depending on the angle of the sun and the number of clouds. Chris photographed the last light of the evening, perfectly illuminating the towers and the hiker setting up his tent. “This added just the adventurous element I was looking for,” Chris shares. “There is no end to the excitement of outdoor photography.” The striking beauty and rugged isolation of this infamous geographic phenomenon inspire a sense of wonder, making this print a perfect centerpiece for lovers of alpine landscapes and epic climbs.
