Behind the Shot
As part of photographer Connor Trimble’s To the Moon series, this print features Connor’s friend and USA longboard champion, John Michael Van Hohenstein, cross-stepping to the nose of his board … while wearing a spacesuit.
Taken at Johnny’s home surf break, Queens Surf Break in Waikiki, Trimble captured his space surfer in black and white. He wanted this shot to be both playful and nostalgic. The black and white is an homage to historical photos, while the surfing spaceman is a modern, even futuristic, twist. This print makes for an unforgettable piece of art and a reminder that anything is possible.
