Behind the Shot
Namibia is a sprawling country with varying terrain, but it might be best known for its large sand dunes. While on a hot air balloon ride above the desert, photographer Pierson Oglesby was captivated by the unique perspective of being up in the clouds. Not a visual you see every day. He noticed another nearby hot air balloon that aligned perfectly above one of the famous dunes and knew it would make an interesting photograph.
It was a quiet ride just after sunrise, with the world below just out of reach. While taking in his surroundings and admiring the wildlife, Pierson took his shot. “It was a very different way of being in the sky than we’re used to,” he says. “It was so peaceful.”
This print almost feels like you are right there with him in that balloon gondola, and a reminder to take the time to be present in your surroundings. You don’t have to be high in the sky to look at things from a different perspective. You never know what you might see. The sky’s the limit.
