Behind the Shot
The day she took this gorgeous close-up of a palm leaf, photographer Kelsey Williamson was with a friend who was shooting film. That gave her the idea to be more intentional with her shots. “When you shoot film, you have to be very particular with what you’re shooting,” she says. She applied that philosophy when she captured this palm leaf in beautiful detail on her DSLR camera.Living in Hawaii, Kelsey is used to seeing palm leaves. But she wasn’t used to seeing them so close and framed in this way. She usually shoots wide landscapes or underwater, but felt inspired to get out of her comfort zone and try something new. The result is a wonderfully unique perspective that transports you right to the sandy beaches of Hawaii. And it’s certainly not the way we’re accustomed to seeing palm leaves!
This print is a perfect example of why it’s important to look at things in a different way from time to time. You never know what you might see.
