Behind the Shot
The volcanic Greek island of Milos in the Aegean Sea is an otherworldly place of white rock formations and crystal blue waters. That’s exactly what drew photographer Alex Van Kampen to the island and to this particular scene. “The landscape reminds me of another planet,” Alex says. “The combination of white rock formations and vibrant blue water creates a surreal environment unlike anything else on Earth.”
Alex was particularly enchanted by the contrast between the white formations, formed by volcanic activity and shaped over time by wind and water, and the brilliant blue water. “That color contrast is a defining feature of Milos,” Alex says, “It enhances the beauty and majesty of the island. Capturing this incredible landscape on camera allows me to preserve and share the beauty of Milos with others.”
