Behind the Shot
Deep in French Polynesia lies a spellbinding island named Mo’orea. Photographer Kelsey Williamson was there early one morning, drifting in a friend’s dinghy in the sacred Opunohu Bay. She was mesmerized by the sight of Mo’orea’s iconic mountain Mou’a Roa—rising with the morning sun, surrounded by a low layer of clouds.
Kelsey quickly grabbed her Kodak Portra 400 film camera to seize the stunning scene. The use of film enhances the ambience of this print—transporting viewers to a faraway realm and evoking a profound sense of wanderlust.
“My infatuation with capturing the magnificence of Mou’a Roa through photography knows no bounds,” Kelsey says. “I find myself constantly drawn to immortalize its classic natural beauty, exploring various lighting conditions and perspectives. Its distinctiveness makes it an extraordinary symbol for this cherished island.”
Hanging this print prominently in your space will imbue the room with the wonder of that enchanting, distant land. “This photo holds a special place among the many I've captured,” she shares. “Its timeless appeal has left a lasting impression on me. I am certain it will take a permanent spot on the walls of my future home, serving as a beautiful reminder of its significance in my life.”
