Behind the Shot
If you cruise along Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage, California, you’ll find the big pink elephant sign for Rancho Super Car Wash. The neon sign is an icon in the Coachella Valley. Visitors from all over the world stop to take pictures of it every day. The sign is from the mid-’60s, an era that endlessly inspires photographer Carlos Vargas’ work. He captured this neon sign in 2019.
