Behind the Shot
Nothing says summer quite like a classic wooden boardwalk that winds through rolling sand dunes toward a beckoning blue ocean—and that’s the spirit captured in this shot from photographers Wesley and Emma Teague. You can almost smell the salt air and feel the sea breeze on your skin as you gaze at this subtle, neutral-toned print. Snapped during a trip to Pensacola, on Florida’s Gulf Coast, the image represents the minimal, nature-first aspect of this region of the Sunshine State. The serene, quiet vibe of the image is no accident: Pensacola Beach is home to the longest stretch of federally protected seashore in the United States, with miles of unobstructed views and plenty of opportunities for reflection and relaxation.
“We were drawn to the combination of natural and minimal elements, from the boardwalk, which is made to blend in with its natural surroundings, to the rolling sand dunes and the ocean peeking out from the distance,” the photographers explain. “It’s calling to the beachgoers that they’re just a few steps away from paradise.”
