Behind the Shot
St. Barts, or as it’s more formally known, Saint Barthélemy, is a tiny French-controlled island of about 10,000 people, and is known for its white sand beaches and high-end luxury shopping. Located about 160 miles east of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Sea, St. Barts is encircled by world-class beaches, yacht harbors and vast shallow coral reefs teeming with sea life. Boasting world-class amenities and natural beauty, St. Barts attracts more than 200,000 visitors a year. Tourism is the main industry in this French Overseas Territory.
Ryan and his companions spent time surfing the waves and exploring the coral reefs and beaches of St. Barts in early summer. One evening after sunset, Ryan was relaxing with his camera while his companions were finishing up in the water. Looking over, Ryan noted his friend’s shoes and newly purchased surfboard and reflected on the moment. “It was simplicity at its finest. I focused on her shoes. These shoes are my favorites. The design is so simple and effective. It’s crazy to think that this white line called the “jazz line” had originated from a random doodle and turned into one of the most iconic designs in history. It teaches me that we need to not underestimate any of our ideas. You never know how it can turn out until you give it a chance.”
