Behind the Shot
What could be more legendary than the stunningly beautiful Taj Mahal? Photographer Chris Henry carries out photo assignments around the world and will travel anywhere necessary to get the job done. “Every single job in every location is different, which keeps things fresh and interesting,” he shares. “I am inspired by so many photographers traveling the world and capturing its beauty with a unique perspective.” This trip took Chris to South Asia, and this shot required an early-morning wake-up to capture the Taj Mahal bathing in golden light—and also to beat the ever-growing crowds. A marble mausoleum built in the 1600s to house the tombs of an emperor and his beloved wife, the Taj Mahal is India’s most recognizable landmark and an eternal symbol of love. This architectural marvel is most commonly photographed from the front, but Chris wanted to dig for an alternative, unexpected angle. To the left of the Taj Mahal is a clay-colored mosque with equally beautiful and intricate details. Chris placed himself under an archway and framed the monument perfectly. This print reflects on human creativity and devotion, as well as the allure of a world wonder.
